Women's Power Wednesday
March is Women’s History Month and this month last year I encouraged my fellow female personal finance bloggers to highlight our female peers in a show of camaraderie that is often lacking between women in the same field. As many of us women know, we can be our own worst enemies; however, when we work together and support each other, I truly believe there is nothing we can’t accomplish.This year, I unfortunately didn’t have my stuff together enough to reach out in advance, but I encourage my fellow female bloggers through this post to take a Wednesday out of your blog calendar this month and support the other hardworking female personal finance bloggers out there.Last year, I reserved every Wednesday to this effort, but this year I just plan to write one big post. Below are a group of women who I not only admire for their hard work and dedication to their lives on and off their blogs, but they also inspire, support, encourage, motivate and uplift me on a regular basis. If you are not following their blogs, you should because I look forward to reading their writing week in and week out.
Paula - Afford Anything
I met Paula in September at my first FinCon event, a late night party at PT’s suite, and the minute I met her I loved her. Paula’s enthusiasm and excitement for life is not only evident but also contagious. I recently had her on my podcast, and it was one of the most fascinating conversations I have had in a while. Paula shares in great detail her financial journey on her blog Afford Anything, and whether she is talking about real estate or investments, I always enjoy her take on it.
Stefanie - The Broke and Beautiful Life
Stefanie is a blogger that I highlighted last year, and one of the things that impressed me about her was her passion for side hustling. Fast forward a year later, and Stefanie has made her personal finance side hustle a second career alongside her acting. She recently published her first book, The Broke and Beautiful Life and talked about it on my podcast with me.
Erin - Broke Millennial
Erin is another blogger I featured last year and I am also impressed with how far she has progressed in just a year. She doesn’t write on her own site as much as I would like, but that’s because she is taking her career to the next level through her work at Magnify Money while also writing for Daily Finance, US News & World Reports and other large money sites. She also recorded one of my first podcasts with me where we talked about credit myths and tips.
Tonya - Budget and the Beach
Tonya is a blogger that I found because of WPW last year. So many of my friends mentioned Tonya on their lists that I immediately started following her, and I am so glad that I did. Tonya is in the process of taking a big leap with her video productions, and if you would like to support her, here’s where you can go to do so. I personally contributed to her campaign because I think that she is crazy talented, and I can’t wait to see how she takes her work to the next level.
Cat - Budget Blonde
I featured Cat last year during WPW, and not long after that, I became real life friends with her when she and hubs moved up to New Jersey where he is finishing medical school. Cat not only runs a few blogs like Budget Blonde, Red Debted Stepchild and Budget and the Bees, but she is the mom to almost 1-year-old twins. During a podcast I recorded with her, I asked her to share a day in her life and you can check it out here. I honestly have no idea how she does it, I can barely manage with one kid (well, two if you include my hubby :-) )
Holly - Club Thrifty
If you want to read a blogger who is not afraid to speak her mind, you need to read Holly’s writing on Club Thrifty. Whether she is talking about healthcare, her ducktaped car or her latest travel hacked vacation, you are assured to be not only educated but also entertained. Her online businesses with her husband, Greg, are growing to the point that he is joining her full-time. I can’t wait to see what they accomplish together in their jammies!
Melanie - Dear Debt
I have been a blog friend of Melanie’s for a while, but I became real life friends with her during FinCon, and I am so thankful for her friendship online and offline. Melanie recently decided to pursue a career in freelance writing and side hustling, and I am constantly amazed at her work ethic and drive. Her blog Dear Debt gives readers the opportunity to express their debt emotions through Dear Debt letters similar to Dear John letters. If you want a good laugh, check out the end of my podcast with Melanie where she demonstrated her ability to fake laugh.
Petrish - Debt Free Martini
Petrish was actually one of the first bloggers to highlight my blog as a source of inspiration for her, and I loved following and supporting her initially; however, she hit a rough patch and stepped away from the blogging scene for a while. Thankfully, she got herself back together and has now committed to her blogging practice big time. I can’t wait to toast a debt free martini with her soon!
Kim - Eyes on the Dollar
Kim is another blogger that I discovered through last year’s WPW, and I am thankful that I did because I feel as though we have so much in common from our spendy pasts, to raising only children and to our pursuit of financial freedom. While not working in her day job as an optometrist, Kim is sharing with us about her ventures into real estate investing, challenges with raising a financially responsible child and traveling on the cheap.
Mrs. Frugalwoods - Frugalwoods
Last summer I hesitantly started following the journey of the Frugalwoods, after all, how could I take a couple who posted mostly pictures of a dressed up greyhound seriously? Like many others, though, I realized that these two "frugal weirdos" (her words not mine), are not only wonderful people, but filled with lots of great ideas from shopping through your neighbor’s trash to the ultimate frugal lunch option. I really became attached to them, though, after they recorded a podcast with me and I realized that they were not in fact weird, but intelligent, funny and all around lovely human beings.
Laurie - The Frugal Farmer
Laurie has always had a special place in my heart because she and I had very similar financial backgrounds from starting from nothing, to living a life with the Joneses to discovering a more frugal approach to living. I am not quite ready to take up a homestead like Laurie, but I love reading about her adventures and her honest approach to the ups and downs she has with money.
Shannon - The Heavy Purse
Well of course I have to mention Shannon, I love her name!! Seriously, though, Shannon is my west coast alter ego who is also a blonde financial planner committed to helping others gain financial literacy and live better lives. Shannon’s blog is filled with great advice and tips on anything from taxes to raising financially responsible children.
