Weekly Round Up

So this week I was focused on saving money while shopping. On Monday, I took my inspiration from the song Thrift Shop by Macklemore and gave guidance on "smart" shopping techniques. Then I shared my experience of Thrift Shopping with my sister with $20. On Thursday, I compared Thrift Shopping to Thrift(y) Shopping to determine which is the best option. On Friday, I shared the perfect meal after a long day of thrift(y) shopping as well as some inexpensive ideas for Valentine's Day.This week, I enjoyed the following blogs in particular.

  1. Grayson from Debt Round Up shared a post on Frugal Rules about understanding your debt to income ratio. If you are someone who is thinking about purchasing a home in the not too distant future, your DTI needs to be on your radar.
  2. Kali at Commonsense Millennial posed the question of paying off your mortgage early. As a financial planner, I have this conversation frequently with my clients and it is important to really think through all of the pros and cons as to why you choose one approach over another.
  3. Stefanie from the Broke and Beautiful Life blogged at Vosa about the price of being an early adopter to technology. It is amazing how much time and money can be saved by being patient.
  4. Matt at Mom and Dad Money shared a post on how to live on a budget without really sticking to a budget. I use this approach with a number of clients. It is the "sneaky" way we get them budgeting without feeling "deprived" or "restricted."
  5. Holly at Club Thrifty discussed embarrassing ways she has saved money. And I think the lesson learned at the end of this, is there is nothing to be embarrassed about if money was saved (i.e. the ends justify the means). :-)

Next Friday is Valentine's Day, so love will be in the air and on my blog. I will be discussing love and money and financial sexiness. Good stuff! I hope you enjoy your weekend!
