My Career Path

This week I have been talking about financial bruises, and the lessons they have taught us. I not only have financial bruises, but I have professional bruises as well. Prior to starting my own company a little under a year ago, I worked in financial services for 13 years, and I had just about every job you can imagine.I started as an investment banking analyst on the trading floor of a large bank, then I became an institutional fixed income salesperson and sold bonds to large and mid-sized companies. In 2008, I left the large bank and worked for a small commercial real estate based hedge fund for two years only to return to the bank in 2010. Not long after my return, I became a financial advisor for a large wealth management company until I decided to go on my own as a solopreneur.

Career Opportunities Are All Around

Other than writing about finance, my other passion in life is mentoring, especially women in their careers. Through my 14 years of working, I have had a few mentors, but not that many great ones. So I have vowed to become the mentor for others that I always wanted to have. And you can imagine my surprise and delight when I got connected to AOL Jobs who was looking for a woman in finance to write as a mentor for other women. I could not have asked for a better challenge than this.I plan to write about a lot of relevant topics for women in finance, but I plan to have a continual series about how women can succeed in the boys club of finance. And this week my first two posts were published. The links are below. Lots of it have been good, but lots has been challenging as well. The main lesson I can share with you is to never be upset about the bruises you get from life, you never know how they will benefit you and others down the road.Image Source: Free Digital Photos.net Adamr
