Top Ten Military Movies

Since Monday was Memorial Day, and we honored our military men and women, I thought I would use this Friday to share my top ten military movies.10) Black Hawk Down - This movie tells the true story of an intense battle between US Army Rangers and Somali gunmen. Whenever I think of this movie, I think of a former neighbor of mine who used to fly black hawk helicopters. It is such a scary job, but there are some people who absolutely love it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Qf_dT4oIbs9) Platoon - Even though this is a fictional account of a man who decided to give up college and fight in the war in Vietnam, I think it is a good representation of the moral struggles that arise in any wartime situation.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3Wih7Q0DVs8) The Big Red One - I have to be honest, I had never heard of this movie, but it is one of my hubby's favorite movies about WWII that follows four soldiers and their commanding officer through various locations, plus it also stars Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7jwYpAM6RU7) Patton - I had to watch this movie for a business leadership class I took in college, and it is a great depiction of a flawed but successful commander.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-0dTpzNzwo6) Navy Seals - This movie is on the list because it is one of my brother's all-time favorite movies, it was even the subject of one of his first blog posts on his blog, Movie Raiders.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Is16u0jr1bQ5) Apocalypse Now - I remember watching this movie with an ex-boyfriend in high school who was obsessed with Francis Ford Coppola and afterwards, I literally lost sleep that night because I was so disturbed by some of the images. I had a Vietnam vet tell me one time that sometimes the war felt like a scene from this movie.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jts9suWIDlU4) Hot Shots - Okay, well we can't have all serious military movies on this list right? This movie was such a great spoof of one of my favorite movies, Top Gun.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih78dz2XyLc3) The Hurt Locker - Could you imagine a more intense job than disarming bombs in the middle of a war? This was an intense, but amazing movie.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GxSDZc8etg2) Top Gun - This is one of my favorite movies and I actually just quoted it to my hubby this week. Not too long ago, I wrote a blog post about the importance of having a "Goose" or a financial buddy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPxDoFbsvWA1) Saving Private Ryan - The opening scene for this movie is one of the most intense war depictions I have ever seen in a movie. I remember when the movie came out and a number of WWII survivors shared that this was a very accurate depiction of the invasion of Normandy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fByRLOM8WQw

Have you seen any of these? What's your favorite?
