A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes
I have to confess that I haven’t seen the live action version of Cinderella yet; however, I have seen the animated version more times than you can imagine, and Cinderella sings this song to the animals at the open of the movie. If you’re not familiar with the song, here are some of my favorite lyrics

A Chat with a Dreamer
Of course, Cinderella’s dream consisted of marrying a handsome prince and while I don’t fault her for that, I think we should all dream even bigger dreams for ourselves. On Friday’s podcast, I am talking to LeeAnn Maxwell, Founder of Vixen Vodka. LeeAnn is someone who dreamed of starting a vodka company, and after a few years, what started out as a dream has become a reality.Her story is truly a fascinating one. I love vodka, but I can’t imagine ever being ballsy enough to think that I could make my own; however, the back of her vodka bottle says it all “Conceived by empowered women for empowered women.”
Tough to Recommend Dreams
Dreams are scary and beautiful things at the same time. They are beautiful in that they give us something to hope for and work towards, and dare us to want more from our lives in some way. However, unlike Cinderella, most people’s dreams don’t come true or at least not without a great deal of heartache and pain along the way.It’s tough for me as a financial planner to encourage my client’s to pursue their dreams. While I want them to achieve everything they want in life, frequently the pursuit of a dream doesn’t always bring you the most wealth, at least early on. Pursuing dreams requires all sorts of sacrifices of time and money, and these are stresses that not every relationship or family can sustain.
My Dream
Just like LeeAnn, two years ago I had a dream of something bigger. I dreamed of starting a financial services company where people could get the individual attention they needed without the assets most company’s required. Despite the fact that I saw the fulfillment of this dream as clear as Cinderella saw her Prince Charming, many of my close friends and family members questioned my dream, including my husband. It would have been easier for me to just stop before I even started, especially given the lack of support, but I couldn’t let it rest. Apparently, my heart made this dream just about every night while I was asleep.Two years later, my hubby is on board with my dream, and he is one of my biggest supporters, but I still have naysayers. I have also experienced my fair share of ups and downs and frequently thought about turning around and giving up; however, I think this cartoon that Tonya recently shared is exactly what motivates me. If I turned around, I would always wonder if I just committed for a little more time that my dream would become a reality. I honestly always wonder about the people that I have helped thus far and the people I have yet to help. They give me motivation every day to keep digging and keep pushing toward my dream.
The Importance of Never Giving Up on a Dream
In a few weeks, I will share some updates with you, but I recently found my first little diamond after years of digging. I can’t even begin to express to you how it felt to hear the news, and it all started with a dream. No matter how your heart is grieving, you should never stop believing in your dreams. The road is not easy and there will always be naysayers and haters, but when you start to see it come together, the reward is a joy that makes it all worthwhile.
If you haven’t found your dream yet, never lose faith that it will find it’s way into your heart and mind. I never even contemplated my dream until I was 34 years old, and LeeAnn came up with the idea for Vixen Vodka after her 50th birthday. If you need more inspiration, here is a Business Insider post highlighting people who found success after 40.No matter how old you are, though, if your dream like mine and LeeAnn’s is something that you feel so passionate about that you are willing to sacrifice the time and money to pursue it than I encourage you to dream big and chase those dreams with everything you have. Your dreams will not only give you focus and something to work toward, but the pursuit of them will take you on an incredible journey that you won’t want to miss.
