Do You Offend Easily?

If so, a career in financial services is probably not the best fit for you. I started my career 14 years ago on the trading floor of a large investment bank, and I was 22-years-old with dreams of a successful work life filled with lots of money. My dreams started to varnish a few weeks into my job, though, when I first got yelled at by a bond trader. I was only trying to do my job, but apparently I was "an idiot" who had her "head up her a$$" because I couldn't see that he was busy.I quickly returned to my seat with my tail between my legs and thought that maybe finance wasn't the career for me. Fortunately for me, I had a somewhat good boss at the time who told me that the bond trader was an idiot and coached me on how best to get what I wanted from the man.

Did I Become Desensitized?

After 14 years, I have quite a few stories similar to this and some worse, and I wrote about them on AOL Jobs if you want to read more, here's the link.At the end of the day, what I struggle with is whether or not I became desensitized to the offensive comments after hearing them for so long or are some people just overly sensitive.
